It’s interesting that people worry about how long a surplus country can last, instead of asking how long a deficit country, sitting on US$40 trillion of debt and 10-year yields almost at 5%, can last.

Always reminded that China has a population of 1.4 billion, which is larger than North America plus Western Europe, so China’s economy is more like a continental economy which is vast and varied, and highly resilient, so it can absorb economic imbalances for a very long time. The Qing Dynasty suffered economic stagnation for half a century before collapse.
